Legal Assistant

As an experienced Junior Associate, you will overcome multiple and challenging Assignments.

Your Key Responsibilities

Due Diligence for Preparing Applications
• Drafting legal correspondence including Submission Letters, Affidavits, letters of support, letters of motivation, Inquiries letters, etc. in MS Word, Open Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
• Draft correspondence in formal English. Should be comfortable with multiple revisions of drafts as per supervising counsel’s recommendation.
• Communicating with clients (Individual and Corporate; speaking and writing), who are seeking Canadian Immigration related legal advice.
• Providing clients with customized, detailed lists of required information and document.
• Obtain information/documents and fill in Canadian Immigration Applications.
• Tracking communication with clients and reviewing received information and documents.
• Using the information/documents received from clients to type forms, copy documents, resize, upload to server, and send out packages after review by the supervising counsel.
• Conducting legal research as advised by the supervising counsel.
• Enter all the information from the client’s documents in the tracking system and keep the counsel informed about the important deadlines.
• Ensure that all applications are filed promptly before the deadline.
• Take full accountability and responsibility for assigned client matters.
• Organizing and updating internal database and client files.
• Notify counsel of upcoming extensions, petitions, etc.
• Managing a high load of different types of Immigration cases.
• Ensuring client billing is up-to-date at all stages, payment is collected, and invoices are generated by accounting.
• Follow up with immigration authorities on pending applications in writing or by phone.
• Ensure that supervising counsel is immediately informed about important client-related issues that require urgency.
• Answer all client inquiries within 12 hours in an efficient manner and provide excellent customer service.
• Assist in drafting marketing campaign material for emails, SMS, videos, Podcasts, Newspapers, etc.

Learning and Implementing

  1. On instruction from Counsel, Read and learn about Canadian Immigration Processing categories and requirements for each category. Prepare t summary of each program and category.
  2. Keep yourself updated about the latest in Canadian Immigration with the Information sources provided to you.
  3. Staying aware of any changes in procedures and requirements by IRCC, CBSA, and ESDC
  4. Determine the admissibility of persons seeking entry into Canada by examining documents and conducting interviews.

To qualify for the role, you must possess:

  1. Undergraduate University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent experience.
  2. 1+ years as a legal assistant is an asset but not mandatory.
  3. Must be highly organized and have the ability to communicate effectively in a formal manner.
  4. Excellent writing skills.
  5. Strong attention to detail.

License/Certification:
• Immigration Assistant/Law Clerk Diploma (preferred)
