Another record-breaking draw, Express Entry; Canada invites 1,082 PNP candidates.
A lottery was performed on February 16 to select 1,082 candidates from the federal Express Entry pool to apply for Canadian residency.
Only candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) were asked to participate in this draw by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
In the most recent Express Entry draw, an ITA required a CRS score of at least 710 to be issued.
There are three main economic-class programs that IRCC uses the Express Entry system to manage:
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP),
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTC), and
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
As a result of the COVID-19 travel limitations, Canada stopped performing all-program drawings and began alternating between PNP and CEC-specific lotteries. As of September 2021, all Express Entry invitations have been issued to candidates from the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP).
A draw for CEC or FSWP, FSTP candidates, has not yet been scheduled, but the Canadian government has reaffirmed its commitment to holding PNP-specific express admission drawings. Each of the last three rounds of invites has broken a new record regarding the number of people invited.
What is the procedure for immigrating to Canada as a provincial nominee through Express Entry?
Candidate profiles are generated through the Express Entry system and then ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). While calculating this score, human capital characteristics such as age, education, work experience, and language competence are all considered. You can each receive CRS points if you’re applying as a couple.
It is up to the provinces and territories to designate persons who have the talents, education, and job experience to contribute to their local economy through PNP.
The PNP “streams” of each province and territory are tailored to the current demands of their respective jurisdictions. Express Entry streams are available in provinces like Alberta and British Columbia, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia. Applicants who have indicated an interest in relocating to the province can now be found by searching the Express Entry database for those who match specific requirements and have indicated a desire to do so.
Candidates nominated by a province receive an extra 600 points on the CRS.
Invites to apply for permanent residency in the Express Entry pool are sent to the best candidates.
To be eligible for permanent residency (PR), an applicant must first be invited to apply by the Immigration and Refugees Canada (IRCC).
